The Staggered Eyelets knitting stitch pattern creates a fabric with a repetitive and simple lace pattern. It’s pretty and a bit feminine, perfect for knitting tops, cowls, shawls and baby items.

For extra cuteness you can thread a ribbon into a row of eyelets and maybe add a bow?

The perfect beginner lace stitch

This eyelet lace pattern is a super easy stitch, even if you’ve never tried lace knitting before this lace stitch will be an easy one to master!

How to knit the eyelet stitch

The eyelet stitch is created by making a yarn over (YO) and knitting two stitches together (k2tog). Working these two together creates the eyelets and maintains the stitch count.

The supplies needed

To knit seed stitch you will need:

  • Yarn of your choice
  • Knitting needles that suits the yarn
  • Scissors
  • Wool needle to weave in the ends

Knitting abbreviations

K – Knit stitch
P – Purl stitch
YO – Yarn over
k2tog – Knit two stitches together

Do you know all the knit abbreviations? I can honestly say that I don’t keep them all in my head at all times…
So, instead, I wrote a list of 88 knitting abbreviations to keep in my knitting journal. And of course, I made a printable pdf to share with my readers as well! You find it in this post

The Staggered Eyelets Cowl is a free download pattern from Edna Sears found on Ravelry. This cowl is knit almost entirely in the staggered eyelet pattern but with garter stitch at the top and bottom of the cowl.

The cowl is knitted in a DK weight yarn, Tosh DK from MadelineTosh. This yarn is available from LoveCrafts.

Of course, you could also make it in another DK yarn, click here to see the color burst of the DK section at LoveCrafts.com!
